I was published in Scrapbook Trends!

Hey everyone, just sharing a past, but recent toot! I'm in the November Scrapbook Trends - my layout is called cupcakes and I believe it's on page 98 ! Thanks for letting me share!

Way to go Casey!! So my question is... how do you get published? I would love for some magazine to pick up a LO of mine that inspired them and get published, it would be, WELL amazing!!! I mean I would like to set a goal for myself to be published in 2011; I just don't know how I need to go about getting this plan in motion... Tell what you guys did or how you were found to be published!! I would so appreciate it!

No problem! I would love to tell you what the secret is... I really wish there was one, but really it's just looking up publisher websites and finding out what their calls are, when the deadlines are and making something that really catches the editor's eye. I've only had one printed/published paper form magazine and have submitted many layouts... With the holidays and family stuff the past couple of months, I ended up not sending out any more layouts... but the goal in 2011 is to submit each month... I figure, there's really nothing lost with sending them in and it's just an added bonus if they pick me up...

If you want to start off more low key, I would recommend sending in layouts for calls that are e-zines (electronic magazines)... My goal in 2010 was to be published...I didn't care if it was an e-zine or a paper publication...that's where I started and had several published, then I set my goals to being published in a real printed magazine...

That's great Casey!! Thanks... I guess I need to keep track of when calls were. I know of a few places online that post calls and things like that, so I will definitely check them out. That's a great idea, just sending all of your LOs to some place, great idea. I don't know of many ezines, what are some that you know of?

I have never created a layout for a call but I have submitted layouts Ive previously created that fit. Send anything that remotely fits the call.... even if you think.... "They will never choose this one" There have been 2 occasions where I sub'd 3-4 layouts for a call and they have chosen to publish the 1 I almost didnt submit because I didnt deem it "good enough"

Remember the month you are subbing for. If they are asking for misting for the July issue.... an awesome snowy layout with awesome misting wont be chosen.

Send a DETAILED supply list.

Send many things for idea books. They choose more layouts for these and more themes within the main theme therefor more spots for your project to be accepted for.

One of my goals for 2011 is to get a layout published in a print magazine. I had a couple picked up for e-zines and had several cards in paper crafts and CARDS magazine, but this year I'd like to get some scrapbooking stuff picked up. It's so hard (well at least for me) to take the time to submit every month. It takes a lot of work, but it's so fun to see your work in print.
